student and ecr session: Grant writing and finding funding

Open to all students and those who identify as an Early Career Researcher (ECR). Join us for a drink and nibbles in the Bealey Foyer before the presentation.

Securing funding is one of the biggest hurdles for researchers in the early stages of their career. Whether you are applying for a small travel grant, seed funding, project funding or a fellowship, understanding what reviewers and funders are actually looking for can give you a crucial edge. In this relaxed, interactive session, we are pulling back the curtain on the entire grant process. Our panel brings together perspectives from the fellowship and scientific advisory boards, and the university research office to share practical advice on what makes a proposal succeed, and the common mistakes that can trip up your application.

Monday 31 August 4:30pm - 6:00pm

Free tickets available with your registration.

The Panel:

  • Dr Simon O'Carroll (University of Auckland) - Neurological Foundation Personal Awards Committee Co-Chair

  • Assoc Prof Tracy Melzer (University of Canterbury) - Canterbury Medical Research Foundation Scientific Advisory Committee Co-Chair

  • Dr Tamsin Sheen (University of Canterbury) - University of Canterbury Research Funding Associate
